Race To Benefit Falls Church Schools Opens Registration

The Falls Church Education Foundation's Run for the Schools will return for a 19th year as a fundraiser for schools.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — The annual walk and run to support Falls Church's public schools will return for a 19th year. The Falls Church Education Foundation announced registration has opened for the Run for the Schools on Sunday, Sept. 24.

It's part of a packed weekend of events, as the Falls Church Festival is schedule the day before on Saturday, Sept. 23. The run will be held at 8 a.m. on Sept. 24 at Cherry Hill Park. Participants also have the option to complete the race remotely or complete a one-mile walking or running loop.

The event is a fundraiser for Falls Church Education Foundation and Falls Church City Public Schools. The foundation provides supplemental funds to FCCPS to improve students' education, including programs for at-risk families, advanced teacher training, classroom innovation, college scholarships for students and more.

The 5K course will start on Park Avenue near City Hall and continue through the City of Falls Church. The course will end on Park Avenue near the Mary Riley Styles Public Library.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers as well as the top males and females in age groups: 1-10, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. Awards will only be given to in-person participants.

You don't have to be a trained runner to participate in the Run for the Schools. Walkers, runners and participants with strollers are welcome. Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades and dogs are not allowed at the event. All participants will receive a race shirt.

Registration is available online through Sept. 20, and late registration will be offered during packet pickup on Sept. 22 and 23.
