Road Closures Planned For 2 Falls Church Events This Weekend

The Falls Church Festival and Run for Schools will prompt road closures around Falls Church this weekend, according to police.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — If you're driving around Falls Church this weekend, be aware of road closures for two events.

The Falls Church Festival on Saturday and Run for the Schools race Sunday will have traffic impacts in the City of Falls Church, according to city police. The Falls Church Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will coincide with the Falls Church Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., so expect busier vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area of City Hall. The festival will happen on City Hall and Community Center grounds (Park Avenue and Little Falls Street).

On Saturday, the Falls Church Festival will prompt closures to vehicular traffic on parts of Little Falls Street between Park Avenue and Great Falls Street. No vehicular traffic will be able to enter Little Falls Street from Park Avenue from 7 a.m. to noon, and the traffic light at that intersection will be flashing. In addition, access to Little Falls Street at Great Falls Street will only be provided to Falls Church Farmers Market or Falls Church Festival vendors from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Little Falls Street will reopen from Great Falls Street at 9:30 a.m. and from Park Avenue at 12 p.m.

Handicap accessible parking for the Falls Church Farmers Market and Falls Church Festival will be provided at Great Falls Street. Other public parking options in downtown Falls Church are available here.

The 18th annual Run for Schools Race will be held by the Falls Church Education Foundation at 8 a.m. Sunday. The start location of the 5K and 1-mile Walk/Run is 300 Park Avenue between City Hall and Mary Riley Styles Public Library.

Road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. See the course map here.

The following roads will be closed with no parking permitted during that time:

  • Walnut Street
  • Lincoln Avenue from Walnut Street to N. Spring Street and from Great Falls Street to Meridian Street
  • N. Spring Street from Lincoln Avenue to Fulton Avenue
  • Fulton Avenue from N. Spring Street to Pennsylvania Avenue
  • Pennsylvania Avenue from Fulton Avenue to Park Avenue
  • Park Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue to N. Maple Avenue
  • N. Maple Avenue from Park Avenue to W. Jefferson Street
  • W. Jefferson Street from N. Maple Avenue to Little Falls Street
  • Little Falls Street from W. Jefferson Street to Great Falls Street
  • Great Falls Street from Little Falls Street to Lincoln Avenue and from Dorchester Street to N. West Street
  • Meridian Street from Lincoln Avenue to the city boundary
  • Dorchester Road from Meridian Street to Great Falls Street
  • N. West Street from Great Falls Street to Highland Avenue
  • Highland Avenue from N. West Street to Walnut Street

Road closures are needed to ensure the safety of participants and volunteers, according to police. Roads will reopen around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
