Veterans Day Marked With Ceremony, Display In Falls Church
Residents can join Falls Church's Veterans Day ceremony and visit schools' veterans display during the upcoming holiday.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Veterans Day is coming up, providing a time to honor those who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
The City of Falls Church will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the City of Falls Church Veterans Memorial outside the Community Center, 223 Little Falls St. The keynote speaker will be retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. William A. Schmittel.
The City Hall and Community Center parking lot will be closed to visitors from 6:30 a.m. to noon due to the Farmers Market and Veterans Day Ceremony. Limited accessible parking for vehicles with placards will be available on Little Falls Street. All other visitors are encouraged to find street parking and marked public parking spaces or use the Kaiser Permanente garage.

In addition to attending the Veterans Day ceremony, residents can visit a veteran tribute at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. Inside the middle school, the hallways are filled with a card for every George Mason/Meridian High School graduate who has served in the U.S. military. Each card has the graduate's name and graduation year and is organized by military branch. Students and staff also contributed to the family and friends section to recognize those who have served. Outside, Mustang Alley is lined with a flag for every graduate and family or friend who has served in the military.
While Veterans Day falls on a weekend, the City of Falls Church will observe the holiday on Friday, Nov. 10. City Hall and all city programs will be closed on Nov. 10. The Mary Riley Styles Public Library will be closed on Nov. 10 and 11. The Community Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both days. Falls Church City Public Schools are closed for the Nov. 10 observance.
