As Christmas Eve falls on a weekend, various schedule changes will happen on the surrounding days in Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Christmas Day falls on a Monday in 2023, so there will be various schedule changes over several days.

City of Falls Church and Fairfax County government will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and most will be closed through Tuesday, Dec. 26. Other services have schedule changes on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or surrounding days.

If you're in town on Christmas, Meadowlark Winter Walk of Lights, Ice & Lights: Winter Village at Cameron Run and Bull Run Festival of Lights are a few holiday lights experiences to enjoy with the family. They are open on holidays, including Christmas.

Here are the openings and closures to know for the Christmas holiday around Falls Church:

City of Falls Church government offices: Most city services will be closed on Dec. 22 and 23, and all will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Fairfax County government offices: Closing at noon on Dec. 22 and closed on Dec. 25.

Falls Church City Public Schools: Closed Dec. 18 to Jan. 1 for winter break.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Dec. 18 to Jan. 1 for winter break.

Community Center: The Falls Church Community Center is open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dec. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dec. 23, and closed on Dec. 24 and 25. Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services facilities will closed at noon on Dec. 22 and remain closed through Dec. 25. Fastran will have limited service for dialysis patients only after 12 p.m. on Dec. 22.

Courts: Arlington and Fairfax County courts will close at noon on Dec. 22. On Dec. 25 and 26, all courts will be closed.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles: DMV locations will be closed on Dec. 25.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will operate Sunday Service on Dec. 25. All Fairfax Connector stores, and the Customer Service Call Center will be closed on Dec. 25. Call center hours on Dec. 24 will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Routes that operate on Sunday schedules are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 574, 605, 615, 630, 640, 650, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.

Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library is closed Dec. 22 to 25. All Fairfax County Public Library locations will close at noon on Dec. 22. Normal hours will be held on Dec. 23, and libraries will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Metro: On Dec. 24, Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Dec. 25, Metrorail will operate on a Sunday holiday schedule from 7 a.m. to midnight. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 24 and 25. See timetables for more information. The Red Line has no Metrorail service between Dupont Circle and Gallery Place from Dec. 18 to 30. From Dec. 22 to 24, the shutdown is extended between Dupont Circle and Union Station. Free shuttle buses replace trains.

Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.

Recreation centers: Open regular hours on Dec. 22 and open 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 (9 a.m. to noon at George Washington Rec Center). Closed on Dec. 25.

Trash and recycling: City of Falls Church customers have collections on Wednesdays. For Fairfax County collection customers, there will be no collection on Dec. 25, and the schedule will be pushed back by one day that week. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for holiday changes.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and remain closed through Dec. 25.
