What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2023 In Falls Church

Here are the closures to know for the Labor Day holiday and things to do around Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial last hurrah for summer as many families will head to beaches and other destinations or host backyard barbecues.

Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 4, when City of Falls Church and Fairfax County government offices will be closed along with other services. Many students who have already started school will have a four-day weekend from Friday to Monday. Other services like transit will be open with schedule changes.

If you're staying in town for the Labor Day holiday, here are the openings and closings to know around Falls Church:

City of Falls Church government offices: Closed on Monday, Sept. 4. City Council's work session will happen on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and the Mayor's Meeting will happen on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Monday, Sept. 4.

Falls Church City Public Schools: Schools are closed for Labor Day break from Sept. 1 to 4.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Schools are closed for Labor Day break from Sept. 1 to 4.

Community centers: The Falls Church Community Center is closed Sept. 3 to 4.

Courts: The Fairfax and Arlington County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Sept. 4.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed on Labor Day.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will be operating Sunday service on Monday, Sept. 4. Routes operating on Sundays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 574, 605, 615, 630, 640, 650, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library will be closed on Sept. 3 to 4. On Sept. 4, all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.

Metro: Metrorail will be open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to midnight Sunday and Monday. Most lines are normal service, except the Red Line, which will have single tracking between Friendship Heights and Medical Center on Saturday and Sunday. Trains will run every 8 minutes between Van Ness and Glenmont and every 16 minutes between Van Ness and Shady Grove.

Post offices: Closed on Sept. 4.

Recreation centers: All Fairfax County rec centers are open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Mount Vernon Rec Center remains closed for a multi-year renovation project.

Trash and recycling collection: City of Falls Church customers have collections on Wednesdays. Fairfax County collection customers will have regular collection services on Sept. 4. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are open on Sept. 4.
