Fireworks Safety
Last year was the worst year for fireworks injuries in at least 15 years, according to a report released Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Eleven people died in 2015 using fireworks, the report said, and an estimated 11,900 people were taken to the hospital with fireworks-related injuries. See more:

On the Road
More than 1 million Virginians were expected to hit the road this weekend — the busiest travel period of the summer, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. Traffic heading south on Interstate 95 on Friday afternoon was backed up 15 miles through Fredericksburg. See more:

Enforcement
Virginia State Police will be patrolling heavily on area highways during peak travel times. Last year, during the 2015 July Fourth weekend, Virginia troopers arrested 96 drunk drivers and cited 8,978 speeders and 2,266 reckless drivers. See more:
