Deputy Shot in Stafford, Suspect in Custody: Police

Suspect arrested after firing multiple shots at a deputy, who suffered extensive injuries, according to Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

STAFFORD, VA — A Stafford County Sheriff's deputy suffered extensive injuries in a shooting Tuesday night. After an overnight manhunt for the suspect, deputies had the man in custody early Wednesday morning, according to an SCSO release.

Joshua Anthony Sumter, 18, is facing charges of attempted capital murder. 

The shooting occurred on Windsor Ridge Court, near Route 1. According to the sheriff's office, Sumter fired multiple shots at the deputy, injuring him.
