Driver Charged With Attempted Homicide Over Incident In Fredericksburg
A Stafford County man has been charged with attempted homicide after hitting a person who got out of his car to speak with him.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Stafford County man has been charged with reckless driving and attempted homicide in connection with an incident that took place Tuesday morning in near the campus of the University of Mary Washington.
At about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Fredericksburg Police Department received a call about a pedestrian struck at the intersection of William Street and College Avenue.
According to witnesses and the victim, a silver Jeep Cherokee was driving recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic. The victim and Jeep Cherokee stopped next to each other at the stoplight on College Avenue. When the victim looked over at the Jeep Cherokee, he saw the driver gesturing for him to come to speak with him, according to police.

Concerned the driver of the Jeep may need help, the victim got out of his vehicle and approached the driver of the Jeep Cherokee on the driver’s side, according to police. The two men had an exchange of words, and as the victim walked in front of the Jeep Cherokee, returning to his car, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee revved his engine, striking the victim, police said.
The Jeep Cherokee left the incident, driving north toward Stafford County.

Officers found the driver just over the bridge in the 400 block of Chatham Heights Road in Stafford. The suspect was identified as Nicholas Duran, 23, of Stafford County. Duran remains incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond, according to police.
