First Grader Wins MWH, United Way Art Contest

Chloe Hammer was selected the winner of the Mary Washington Hospital Trauma Services United Way Art Contest, Mahogany Hart of
Mary Washington Healthcare's marketing & communications office said in a press release.

The Spotsylvania County first grader said she portrayed fire safety in her drawing.  The picture shows Chloe’s family safely meeting in a pre-arranged location following a house fire.

The MWH Trauma Services Team hosts an annual art contest for the children of Mary Washington Healthcare Associates as part of their United Way Campaign.  In November, kids submitted artwork to match the theme, “How I Stay Safe.” Judges met to choose the top 12 entries, which were displayed throughout the Mary Washington Hospital Atrium.

For one week, MWHC Associates viewed the entries on display and voted on their favorite picture. Each vote cost .25 cents, and earnings went towards Mary Washington Healthcare’s total United Way fund of $200,000. 

Lawrence Roberts, trauma medical director and lead surgeon, and Jennifer Brown, trauma coordinator, visited Battlefield Elementary School to award Chloe Hammer her $50 VISA Gift Card. Chloe also won cupcakes and balloons for her entire class.

Chloe’s picture alone raised $84.41 for United Way. The art contest raised a total of $357.80.
