The National Weather Service has issued another extension of a Flood Warning for the region. The warning has now been extended to 1:30 a.m.

A notice issued by the weather service says that as of 9 p.m., there are numerous reports of road closures due to flooding across central and northern Virginia. The warning includes Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties, along with other localities in the region.

"Although the steady rain will taper off from west to east later this evening, excessive runoff from earlier heavy rainfall will still cause additional rises of small creeks and streams into the overnight," reads the notice.

The weather service says flash flooding is not expected and that stream rises will be slow.

With nightfall upon us, the weather service wants residents to be particularly cautious at night, when the signs of flooding may be less immediately apparent.

"Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters," reads the notice. "Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising."
