Fredericksburg Council Election Results: Mackintosh, Holmes Lead

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Unofficial election results show a pair of challengers leading incumbent Matthew Kelly in the race for Fredericksburg City Council.

There are three candidates for two open at-large seats on the Fredericksburg City Council. Janaan Holmes, Will Mackintosh, and Kelly are looking to represent the city on the council.

At 10:24 p.m. on Tuesday, all of Fredericksburg's precincts reported results from Election Day. Provisional ballots had not yet been counted.

The unofficial results showed Mackintosh and Holmes in the lead with 4,275 and 3,791 votes, respectively. Kelly trailed with 3,654 votes..

Kelly is the only incumbent in the city council race. He was also the only candidate in the race to respond to Patch's questionnaire. Kelly noted that he wanted to preserve the things that make Fredericksburg unique.

"I am concerned Fredericksburg has adopted an approach to development that is degrading its unique historic small town character," Kelly said. "Adopting plans that mimic what is going on around us will lead to Fredericksburg becoming nothing more than another stop on the I-95 corridor for gas and a quick bite to eat."
