Find out what's happening in Fredericksburgfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Fredericksburg, Va. (August 26, 2025)—Check out the adorable rescue dogs during events at Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) and throughout the community in September. From hikes, strolls and yoga to Pet Palooza, the Fredericksburg Farmers Market and a Nail Clinic for pets, there’s something for everyone and a chance to meet and adopt furry friends. Proceeds for activities with fees go to the medical needs, vaccinations, microchipping, food and other expenses for the rescue dogs.

Saturday Strolls—September 6, 13, 20, 27

Start the weekend with a relaxing Saturday Stroll with a smaller rescue dog, as well as the company of others in the community. While the dogs will enjoy some exercise and fresh air, the humans provide a great service in helping to socialize the canines. Strolls are less than two miles on flatter terrain and at a much more relaxed pace than the Sunday Hikes. Volunteers match individuals to their furry strolling partners, and participants drive the dogs to a local trail in their cars. Crates are provided by ODHS. There’s no need to sign up beforehand—just meet ODHS volunteers at the facility at 7:45 a.m.

ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard, Fredericksburg, Va., 22408.

Fur & Feathers Dog Nail Clinic-September 6

Is it time for that favorite furball to get the spa treatment? Dog nail trimming by Fur & Feathers will be at ODHS from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and no appointment is needed. The cost is $20, and 50 percent of the proceeds go toward the care of the rescue dogs.

ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard, Fredericksburg, Va., 22408.

Sunday Hikes—September 7, 14, 21, 28

Ready for a brisk hike ranging from three to five miles on challenging trails? The Sunday Hikes are at a faster pace with the bigger rescue dogs, while Saturday Strolls are with smaller dogs at a relaxed pace. There’s no need to register in advance, and volunteers pair hikers with the perfect dog. Dogs hitch a ride in the hikers’ cars, and ODHS supplies crates. Join fellow dog lovers for the weekly hikes that are great workouts for the rescue dogs and humans, too. The hikes are planned at different trails each week. Meet at the ODHS facility at 7:45 a.m. and join the pack.

ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard, Fredericksburg, Va., 22408.

Fredericksburg Pet Palooza—September 13 and 14

Tails will be wagging at the Fredericksburg Convention Center, where ODHS rescues will take center stage, September 13 and 14. From adorable puppies to happy adult dogs to sweet seniors looking for their forever families, they’ll be at the ODHS booth from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 13 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 14. The annual event includes a pet costume contest, merchandise, the newest fashions in “dog wear,” tasty treats, toys and meet and greet areas for a chance to mingle with pups and find a new forever friend.

Puppy Yoga—September 26

Stretching and snuggling is always better with puppies, and when they’re rescues from ODHS it’s an irresistibly good time. Warm up with puppy cuddles from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a yoga session from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per participant and $35 for two. Get a workout while helping a good cause. There’s no need to preregister for the event.
