Gas Leak Disrupts Eagle Village

Large leak starts when construction crews rupture gas line.

A large gas leak disrupted some businesses at Eagle Village on Route 1 in Fredericksburg earlier today.

According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, the gas leak was reported around 9:15 a.m. when construction crews working behind Eagle Village ruptured a gas line. By shortly before 10 a.m., crews from Columbia Gas had shut off the gas line to begin repairs.

Residents reported smelling the gas as far away as the FRED Bus Station on Route 1 and at St. Mary's Catholic Church on College Avenue.

Some Eagle Village businesses were evacuated briefly. As of 10 a.m., the Eagle Village Shopping Center has reopened. Some businesses may still be closed on account of the lack of gas service, however.
