UPDATE: Highway Opens After Log Jam

Commuters heading south on I-95 may find themselves in a bit of a logjam this afternoon. Rescue crews are working to clear the scene of an overturned truck near mile marker 130 on I-95, just past the Route 3 exit. Traffic is backed up all the way to Acquia Harbor.

The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m.

No other cars were involved and there are no reported injuries. Traffic can only get by on the right shoulder, according to Fredericksburg Police Spokesperson Natatia Bledsoe.

UPDATE 5:07 p.m. -

Lanes are slowly beginning to reopen on I-95, according to a tweet from the Fredericksburg Police Department.

"Two right lanes open I95 S at 130mm, truck upright and on the left shoulder, left lane still closed should be open in approx 30 mins" reads a message posted by the official twitter account of the Fredericksburg Police Department shortly after 5 p.m.

The traffic backup stretches for miles into Stafford County. Some commuters are ditching their cars in D.C. and taking the VRE home, citing the ungodly traffic jam.

UPDATE 5:22 p.m.

The following brief press release from Fredericksburg Police Spokesperson Natatia Bledsoe sent to regional media outlets details the situation as it stands now at the scene of the wreck.

"Right and center lanes now open on I95 southbound at 130 mm, left lane should be open within 30 mins or so.  Truck is upright and on the left shoulder, cleanup of debris in left lane continues," wrote Bledsoe.

This is a truly epic traffic jam. According to 511 Virginia, cars are backed up 13 miles because of the wreck.

511 Virginia reports that the scene is now cleared, but that two lanes remain closed.

UPDATE - 5:37 p.m.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting that all lanes of traffic on I-95 are open after the wreck has been cleared.

"All travel lanes of southbound I-95 are now open at Exit 130/Fredericksburg," reads a brief media release from VDOT sent at 5:27 p.m.
