Man Abducted 2-Year-Old, Assaulted Mother: Fredericksburg Police

A Woodbridge man faces abduction and other charges after police said he forced his way into a Fredericksburg apartment and took a toddler.

FREDERICKBURG, VA — A Woodbridge man faces burglary, abduction and other charges after police said he forced his way into a Fredericksburg apartment Wednesday and took a toddler from his mother at gunpoint.

Fredericksburg Police received a report of a fight at an apartment in the 2400 block of Cowan Boulevard about 7 a.m. The female victim told police the father of her child forced his way into her apartment about 4:30 a.m., held her at gunpoint, and physically assaulted her.

The woman identified her attacker as Jerell Blakey Jr., 25, of Woodbridge. Police said Blakey then left with his two-year-old son.

Patrol officers searched for Blakey and asked neighboring law enforcement agencies to look for his vehicle.

About 4 p.m., detectives located Blakey’s vehicle in the 600 block of Greystone Court in Fredericksburg. He was taken into police custody without incident.

The child was inside an apartment and not in distress or hurt, the police report said. He was returned to his mother.

Detectives also found the firearm used during the abduction.

Blakey is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond on these charges: Burglary, two counts of abduction, two counts of domestic assault, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, two counts of brandishing and unlawful interference with the transmission of an emergency radio.
