Man Taken Into Custody At Motel After Eluding Stafford County Deputies
A man eluded police on Saturday until he was taken into custody later that day while trying to check into a Super 8 motel, police said.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Centreville man eluded police for several hours on Saturday until he was taken into custody later that day while trying to check into a Stafford County motel, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The search began about 6:20 p.m. when a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a reckless driver in a Toyota RAV4 near the intersection of U.S. 17 and Sanford Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect did not stop and sped around to the back of the Comfort Suites and ran from his vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the area and brought in a dog and a drone to assist in the search.

At about 9:40 p.m., the suspect, Brandon Garnett, 41, tried to check in at the nearby Super 8, the sheriff’s office said.
Garnett was taken into custody at the Super 8 and charged with eluding, obstruction, reckless driving, aggressive driving, drinking while driving and driving revoked, according to the sheriff’s office. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
