Fredericksburg, Va. (May 29, 2025)—Whether it’s a fun stroll, an invigorating hike or painting a favorite pet, Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) has something for everyone in June. The community is invited to participate in activities geared to helping the rescue dogs get exercise and socialized, and there are plenty of opportunities to mingle with adorable canines while meeting others in the community. Fundraisers will help the nonprofit organization care for the rescue dogs, many of whom have come from high-kill animal shelters and hoarding, neglect and mistreatment cases.

Saturday Stroll—June 7, 14, 21, 28 The Saturday Stroll is open to the community and is at a relaxed pace, where participants are matched with one of the smaller rescue dogs. Rescues will hitch a ride with strollers and visit one of the local trails. Volunteers are ready to meet the public at 7:45 a.m. at the ODHS adoption center and provide crates if needed.

Sunday Hikes—June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Join others in the community for a great way to wake up on Sunday mornings when participants are paired with dogs and head to local trails. Meet at the ODHS adoption center to be matched with a furry friend at 7:45 a.m. The hikers transport dogs to the trail, and ODHS provides crates if necessary.

Fur & Feathers Dog Nail Clinic—June 7 Don’t miss the chance for that favorite four-legged friend to get pampered with a “pawdicure” at the ODHS adoption center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is needed, and the cost is $20. One-half of the proceeds will be donated to ODHS.

Paw-Stock at Bald Top Brewing Co.—June 7 For a fun time and a chance to meet ODHS’s available rescues, attend Paw-Stock at Bald Top Brewing Co. in Madison, Va., from 3-7 p.m. Hosted by Jeepin’ for Paws, there’s something for everyone, including music, beer, shopping and cuddles with the rescue dogs. (Jeepin for Paws is dedicated to saving lives by rescuing animals in need, providing them with care and connecting each one with a forever family.)

FXBG Farmers Market at Hurkamp Park—June 14 Bring the grocery list and be sure to include an adorable furry friend to bring home from ODHS at the Fredericksburg (FXBG) Farmers Market at Hurkamp Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The rescues, who will be out and about, are cuddlers, zoomie experts and everything in between.

Paws for Pops at Spotsylvania Towne Centre—June 14 Looking for the perfect gift for dad for Father’s Day? Come to Paws for Pops at Spotsylvania Towne Centre, where the cutest furry friends will be waiting, from 12-3 p.m. Visit with the pups, who’ll be happy to get all the attention and a chance to find a loving home.

Paws for the Planet (TCCSWCD)—June 21 Join ODHS and Tri-County/City Soil & Water Conservation District (TCCSWCD), as well as other organizations, for an event that’s focused on pets, people and the planet at Cossey Park in Fredericksburg from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet a new furry best friend to take home and make a “paws-itive” impact on the planet.

Barks and Brushes: Paint Your Pet’s Portrait—June 28 Unleash the inner artist at ODHS’s Barks and Brushes, where participants paint a portrait of a beloved pet from 6-9 p.m. ODHS provides the canvas and supplies, and art skills are not needed. To make the evening even better, there’s puppy cuddle time with the ODHS rescues from 5:30-6 p.m. Advance registration is required.

ODHS is located at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Adoption events are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m., Fridays from 6-8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applications in advance are preferred and take priority over walk-ins. For more information about the dogs available for adoption and adoption surveys, as well as upcoming events, volunteering, fostering and donating items, visit www.olddominionhumanesociety.org.
