Update: Pilot Identified in I-95 Crash Near Stafford Airport
The Fredericksburg resident suffered serious injuries, but they were not considered life threatening, according to Virginia State Police.

STAFFORD, VA — The pilot in a Monday afternoon plane crash near Interstate 95 in Stafford County suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, according to the Virginia State Police.
The pilot, Roberta A. Boucher, 62, of Fredericksburg, was transported to Mary Washington Hospital.
Around 5:30 p.m., the small single-seat, experimental aircraft was conducting a high-speed taxi on the runway at Stafford Regional Airport when the aircraft unintentionally lifted off the runway, according to state police spokesperson Corinne Geller.

The aircraft landed against an embankment near the southbound lanes of the interstate near the 137 mile marker.
The FAA is responding to the scene and the NTSB was also notified.

Virginia Department of Transportation was reporting a 6-mile backup on I-95 in the stretch that runs along the airport.
