Scooter Driver Dies in Wreck
A 55-year-old man died after being hit by a pickup truck on Route 1.

A man died yesterday after being struck by a pickup truck while he was riding a motor scooter.
Police, fire and rescue officials responded around 7:10 a.m. on October 27 for reports of a man hit by a vehicle in the 1300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. Once on the scene, they found 55-year-old Fredericksburg area resident Timothy Walthall lying on the ground, not breathing and suffering from head trauma.
Walthall was riding his scooter in the southbound lanes of Jefferson Davis Highway when he was struck by a Dodge pickup truck making a left turn across traffic from the northbound lanes.Walthall was wearing a helmet, says Fredericksburg Police Patrol Commander Rick Pennock.

The driver, a 65-year-old Spotsylvania resident remained on the scene while authorities conducted the initial investigation. No charges have been filed against him as of yesterday.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
