Two people were recommended for post-exposure rabies treatment after a dead bat was found in a bag of packaged salad they bought in a Florida grocery store, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The discovery has also led to a recall of some cases of the packaged salad. The recall affects consumers in Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota and the Carolinas.

Arson Suspected at School in Woodbridge

The old Kilby Elementary School building, located at 1800 Horner Rd., was broken into on April 9. Evidence of several small fires was discovered on the site, according to Prince William County Police. School officials told police that, sometime between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., entry was made into the building through several glass doors that had been shattered.

Man On FBI's Top 10 Fugitive List Could Be In Maryland Or Virginia

A man wanted for the brutal murder of a fellow gang member in New Jersey was added to the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list on April 12, and authorities say he could be living in Northern Virginia or Maryland. Fugitive Walter Yovany Gomez marks the 513th addition to the “Top Ten” list. Gomez, who is "considered armed and dangerous," is being sought for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Julio Matute.

Virginia Hospital Patient Safety Grades Released For 2017

How safe are Virginia's hospitals? New grades released on April 12 by The Leapfrog Group will tell you. The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit founded by employers and healthcare providers, ranked 70 Virginia hospitals as part of its spring 2017 safety grades. The hospitals were given a letter grade from A through F based on several factors. Of the 70 Virginia hospitals that were graded, nearly half received an A.

Vandal of Annandale Jewish Community Center Arrested

Fairfax County Police have arrested a suspect in the Tuesday vandalization of the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia and Little River United Church of Christ. Police arrested Dylan M. Mahone, 20, of Annandale in connection with three hate-motivated incidents on the evening of April 12. He is charged with two counts, each of felony destruction of property, placing a swastika on religious property with the intent to intimidate and wearing a mask in public to conceal one's identity.
