- Steven Ventura, a longtime teacher and current assistant principal, has been announced as the new permanent principal of Walker-Grant Middle School for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. The School Board made the announcement at a special meeting, expressing their excitement about Ventura's leadership qualities and his understanding of the community. Ventura has been with Fredericksburg City Schools since 2012 and was previously awarded the Teacher of the Year for both the school and the division. He holds a master's degree in educational leadership and is eager to continue making a difference in the lives of students at Walker-Grant Middle School. (Subscription: Fredericksburg.com)
- Fredericksburg police are offering an undisclosed cash reward to gather leads in the recent homicide of 19-year-old Antoine Fox, who was shot multiple times on Jun. 10. The shooting occurred on Lafayette Boulevard, and multiple cartridge casings were found at the scene, indicating the involvement of more than one gun. Police hope the reward will encourage individuals to come forward with information to help arrest the suspect and provide closure for the victim's family. (Subscription: Patch)
- Juneteenth celebrations are scheduled to take place in the Fredericksburg region on Jun. 19, commemorating the day in 1865 when Union Maj. Gen.
