14-Year-Old Charged In Hybla Valley Shooting With 1 Injury

A shooting that injured one person in Hybla Valley led to charges for a teen, according to Fairfax County Police.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — A 14-year-old has been arrested and charged in Saturday's shooting that injured one person in Hybla Valley, Fairfax County Police say.

Police had responded to the shooting around 5:05 p.m. in the 7400 block of Vernon Square Drive. A 19-year-old victim was with gunshot wounds in the upper body and arm. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives believe the victim was walking to an apartment when the 14-year-old suspect approached and shot him. Police do not believe the shooting was random. A home was also struck by one round of gunshots, but no one was injured in the home.

The suspect fled from the area. During the investigation, police contacted the victim's mother. Although the victim was not home when officers responded, the mother brought the 14-year-old to the Mount Vernon District Police Station later that evening.

The 14-year-old suspect was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The juvenile is being held at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. Police have not found the gun used in the shooting.
