Woman Accused Of Hitting Cop Amid Fight Outside Alexandria Business
An Arlington County Police officer who tried to stop a fight was struck by an Alexandria woman late Sunday afternoon, according to police.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — An 18-year-old woman is facing an assault charge after she struck an Arlington County Police officer Sunday afternoon in the Alexandria area, according to authorities.
Around 4:54 p.m., an officer saw a large group of people involved in a fight outside a business in the 4300 block of King Street.
When the officer approached the crowd and began issuing commands, 18-year-old Georgett Hernandez Oliva struck the officer, according to police.

The officer, who later reported no injuries, took Hernandez Oliva into custody and then obtained a warrant charging her with assault on police, according to the police report.
The Alexandria Police Department assumed custody of Hernandez Oliva and was the primary agency investigating the incident, according to police. After being served the warrant, she was released on her own recognizance.

Hernandez Oliva is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday morning in Alexandria General District Court, according to court documents. No primary hearing date has been set.
Assault and battery on a police officer is a Class 1 misdemeanor, which means Hernandez Oliva faces a potential confinement in jail of up to 12 months and/or a fine of up to $2,500 if she is convicted, according to Virginia law.
