2 Killed In Overnight Crashes On I-495: Police

Both fatalities involved people who were not in vehicles and occurred in the area of Exit 176, police said.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Two people were killed in unrelated crashes overnight on Interstate 495 near Exit 176 in Fairfax County, according to state police.

Authorities responded around 3:40 a.m. to the westbound shoulder, where it appeared a person changing a tire was hit by a truck and died at the scene, police said, adding the truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital and charges were pending.

About 15 minutes later, police encountered a woman in the eastbound lanes who had stumbled into traffic, been struck and died on scene, according to police, citing witnesses.

Exit 176 runs along the borders of Alexandria, Huntington and Rose Hill.
