Arrest Made For Attempted Armed Robbery Of Juveniles In Gum Springs

Two juveniles were victims of an attempted robbery in Gum Springs, according to Fairfax County Police.

GUM SPRINGS, VA — A man is in police custody for an attempted robbery of two juveniles at gunpoint in Gum Springs Sunday, Fairfax County Police say.

The robbery happened around 5:36 p.m. Sunday near the Gum Springs Community Center. According to police, the suspect showed a gun and demanded their valuables. However, the juveniles didn't have valuables, so nothing was stolen.

The suspect ran toward Fordson Road, and officers located him on Holland Road. Zelalem Zewde, 21, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with one count of attempted armed robbery and one count of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. The gun used in the robbery attempt was not found by police.
