Dumfries Driver Dies In Capital Beltway Crash, Other Drive Not Charged
A slow-moving vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer in the Alexandria area of the Capital Beltway, killing a Dumfries driver.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A driver from Dumfries died when her vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer on the southside section of the Capital Beltway last Thursday, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened around 12:20 a.m. last Thursday on the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) at the 175 mile marker, which is between the Eisenhower Avenue connector and Telegraph Road exits. According to police, a 1998 Honda Accord was traveling west on I-495 at a slow speed between the right shoulder and right travel lane. A tractor-trailer heading west was unable to avoid the car and struck the rear.
The two vehicles ran off the left side of the Capital Beltway and struck the jersey wall before stopping on the left shoulder.

The Honda driver, Nicole M. Lewis, 40, of Dumfries, died at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The tractor-trailer drive, Yvens Civil, 30, of New Jersey, was not injured in the crash and was wearing a seatbelt.

Charges were not placed against the tractor-trailer driver, state police say. The crash continues to be investigated by the Virginia State Police Fairfax Division's Crash Reconstruction Team and Motor Carrier Safety Team as well as the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney.
