First Major Snowstorm Of 2024: Photos Wanted From Greater Alexandria
After the first major snow storm of the year, share your snow photos from the greater Alexandria area for Patch's winter storm gallery.

FORT HUNT, VA — Tuesday was supposed to be the day when everyone returned to work or school following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but Mother Nature had a different plan for greater Alexandria residents.
A winter storm warning was in effect to 10 a.m. on Tuesday for most of Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., according to the National Weather Service. While snow is expected to taper off during the morning hours, it will be replaced in some areas by sleet or freezing rain.
As a result of the snow, not only did Fairfax County Public Schools and Alexandria City Public Schools close and the Alexandria city and Fairfax County government offices open late. In addition, all federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area were closed, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
