Heat Index Could Hit 105 In NoVA, DC: Advisory Issued

The heat index could reach 105 and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, according to the National Weather Service.

Although many kids in the DC area are headed back to school, summer isn't ready to leave just yet. In fact, temperatures will be scorching Tuesday, leading the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory.

The heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Forecasters expect a heat index up to 105 with temperatures in the mid 90s.

A heat advisory refers to a prolonged period of high temperatures. Combined with high humidity, these conditions make heat-related illnesses more likely. Forecasters caution that long exposure to the conditions outside could cause heat stress.
