VIRGINIA/DC — The weather on Labor Day weekend, considered the last hurrah of summer, will continue to bring warm temperatures and chances of precipitation in Northern Virginia and DC, according to forecasters.

This week started with sticky, hot weather over much of the country, that changed as a cooler air mass from Canada moved in, according to AccuWeather. The cold front triggered severe thunderstorms from the Plains to the Midwest early this week before moving into the interior Northeast, much of the Appalachians and the mid-Atlantic states Tuesday.

By Thursday, most of the eastern half of the country should be experiencing temperatures in the 80s that are more typical of late summer and early fall, according to the forecast.

In the DC region, the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang expects the weekend to start with high temperatures in the mid-80s, lows at night in the mid-60s and moderate humidity. Forecasters believe another cold front will approach Sunday and Monday, which could bring the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the day. Otherwise, the days are expected to be at least partly sunny with highs in the mid to high 80s and lows in the mid-60s.

Even beyond Labor Day, don't get out those fall sweaters and jackets yet. AccuWeather’s fall 2022 forecast calls for a warmer-than-normal start to autumn. The forecast isn't a change from the norm for the DC region, which often sees warm temperatures continue into September.
