Man Who Evaded Fairfax Police For Months Sentenced For Murder
Kyjuan Trott-McLean was convicted of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony by a jury on March 4, 2024.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A man who evaded police for months after fatally shooting another man outside an Alexandria apartment building has been sentenced to prison, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced Friday.
Kyjuan Trott-McLean, 45, was sentenced to serve 43 years in prison for the death of 31-year-old Brandon Wims. A judge suspended 10 years from the sentence but also ordered Trott-McLean to serve an additional three years on gun charges, meaning he will spend 33 years behind bars, prosecutors said.
“Our community is devastated by the loss of Brandon Wims, who was only in the wrong place at the wrong time when he was shot and killed by a total stranger,” Descano said in a statement. "Nothing can bring Brandon back to his family, but today, I hope, after two years of waiting, that Brandon’s loved ones can finally have closure and begin to heal from this tragedy.”

Wims, a Maryland resident, was shot on October 2, 2022, in a vehicle outside the Old Mills Gardens apartment complex in Woodlawn, according to prosecutors. Detectives identified Trott-McLean as the suspect, claiming he saw Wims in the backseat of a car before he exited his own vehicle and approached him.
Prosecutors said Wims was in the vehicle with two friends, one of whom was Trott-McLean's estranged wife. Authorities said Trott-McLean shot multiple rounds at the vehicle, striking Wims four times.

Wims was dropped off at the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead.
Trott-McLean was on the run for nearly two months after the shooting but was arrested in December 2023 in Mount Vernon. The arrest came after an increased reward for the wanted man's arrest was offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Wims family's Victims’ Rights Foundation.
