Mount Vernon Theater Scores 3 Cappies Nominations For 'She Kills Monsters' Production

Mount Vernon High School's Dungeons & Dragons-themed play got nominated for the DC area high school theater's version of the Tony Awards.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — Mount Vernon High School's production of "She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition" proved to whisk the audience away on a fantasy adventure.

The production drew three nominations for the prestigious National Capital Area Cappie Awards, which are considered the Tony Awards for high school theater in the DC region. The nominations include Eva Greek, Jaden Harris, & Crew in the Props category, Matthew Boehm for Comic Actor in a Male Role in a Play, and JJ Dunn for Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Play.

Mount Vernon High School's theater students performed the play "She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition" during the fall season. The play follows the story of a girl who is dealing with the death of her younger sister. She ends up in an adventure in the imaginary Dungeons & Dragons world after coming across her sister's notebook.

Winners of the Cappies awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 12 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC.
