Neighborhood Spotlight: Hollin Hall Village

Vincent Fusaro, Vice President of the Hollin Hall Village Citizen's Association Spotlight on the 75th Anniversary of the Community

2018 marks the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of Hollin Hall Village. This quaint, peaceful neighborhood nestled within the Mount Vernon District was established in 1943, when Fairfax County approved the first two sections of the Hollin Hall Subdivision. John McPherson Sr. was the main developer of Hollin Hall Village and believed in the future development of the community, as well as Fairfax County. Hollin Hall Village then began to witness an expansion of home development during the early 1950’s. Since then, generations of residents have called Hollin Hall Village their home, enjoying the small town feel and quality of life, while being only 10 miles south of Washington D.C.

Today, Hollin Hall Village is a vibrant community of approximately 700 single family homes and local businesses. Hollin Hall Village contains two shopping centers with community staples, specialty stores, and a senior’s center which are all within an easy walk for all residents. There is also a baseball field which is the home field to many neighborhood children.

The health of a community can be judged through its level of civic engagement. The Hollin Hall Village Citizen’s Association (HHVCA) consists of local citizens who faithfully volunteer to serve their community. They represent their neighborhood at district meetings and participate on county boards and committees. Hollin Hall Village continues to uphold and preserve its pleasant small-town environment, while continuously remaining involved with the issues impacting the future of their district, county, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The HHVCA Board of Directors and some volunteer citizens have been working in collaboration to coordinate a celebration to acknowledge the community’s 75th Anniversary. The 75th Anniversary celebration is scheduled for Sunday October 7, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Park Association at 8042 Fairfax Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308. This event is open to all current and former Hollin Hall Village Citizens.

The 75th Anniversary celebration will have activities for children, feature local band Close 2 Home, and have some special guests. We are currently coordinating with local media sources and hope to have coverage for the event. HHVCA plans to display the numerous proclamations received from local politicians to honor the 75th Anniversary of its being established, as well as a recent submission in the Congressional Record. HHVCA is also developing a 75th Anniversary booklet containing articles, stories, and photos from our 75-year history, many of which were submitted or written by local citizens. For more information about Hollin Hall Village’s 75th Anniversary, or about our 75th Anniversary booklet, please visit our website at www.hhvca.org Specific details will be added to our website and our September 2018 newsletter.
