Older Resident Dies After House Fire In Mount Vernon

A resident died at the hospital after being rescued from a house fire in Mount Vernon, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — An older adult was killed in a house fire in Mount Vernon Saturday, according to Fairfax County and Rescue.

Firefighters had responded to a single-family house in the 3800 block of Kings Hill Court around 5:58 p.m. Saturday. Units found fire extending from the first floor to the second floor. While units worked to quickly put out the fire, they rescued an older man. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and died later that evening.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology report from the medical examiner. No firefighters were injured in the fire response.

The fire was discovered by a neighbor, who called 911. Smoke alarms were present in the home, but the fire department does not know if they activated. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the source was the living room.

Other residents of the home were not there at the time of the fire. Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. Damages to the home were estimated at $475,500.
