Outages Hit Areas Of Route 1 Corridor During Thunderstorm
After days of storms, Wednesday's thunderstorm brought widespread outages to the region.

FORT HUNT, VA — The Richmond Highway corridor and the rest of the region has seen days of scorching temperatures and thunderstorms, and Wednesday was no different. Severe thunderstorms rumbled through the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing rain, lightning and power outages.
Dominion Energy has reported over 52,000 outages in Virginia on Wednesday evening, some of which are in areas of the Route 1 corridor. According to Dominion Energy's outage map, over 1,400 lost power in Fort Hunt. An additional 950 or more lost power in Hybla Valley west of Richmond Highway, along with over 700 in Mount Vernon above Dogue Creek.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue is responding to a number of downed power line calls in the county. Residents are urged to avoid downed power lives, as they could be live. If the power goes out, the fire department also recommends using battery-powered lighting in place of candles.

Fairfax County is under a flash flood warning until 6:30 p.m. The National Weather Service said as of 3:30 p.m., thunderstorms were producing heavy rain the region. The severe thunderstorm warning for the area expired at 4:15 p.m.
