Star Athlete In Alexandria Collects Equipment For People In Need
An athlete at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School overcame injuries and started sports equipment collections for under-resourced neighborhoods.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
His injuries taught him to “climb the mountain of challenge” with tenacity and grace, but those injuries do not define him. He experienced two separate ulnar collateral ligament ruptures in each of his thumbs in less than a year. His first surgery was on June 2, 2021 and the second was on March 9, 2022. During that time, he maintained his grades earning all As except a B+ in AP Chemistry.
He also did not give up his dream of playing college basketball. He pushed himself in his hand rehabilitation and ran to remain conditioned. He persevered and is currently pursuing the opportunity to play basketball at the collegiate level.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
Garrett pushes himself to be the best version of himself in every aspect of his life, including his academic work at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Alexandria, his basketball, and the project, EquipMEANT for Sports, he developed while he was injured. He collects gently used sports equipment and delivers it to recreation centers in areas where under-resourced students can take the equipment for free.
Keep up the great work, Garrett Sullivan!
