Temperatures Plummet In Time For Halloween: NoVA Weather Forecast

After above-average temperatures, Northern Virginia will shiver through a cold blast for Halloween, according to forecasters.

VIRGINIA — It's only appropriate that temperatures will drop for some bone-chilling weather on Halloween.

Northern Virginia has been experiencing warmer-than-usual temperatures for late October in the last few days. But that will come to an abrupt end as daytime high temperatures will drop about 30 degrees on Tuesday.

High temperatures will be in the mid-70s to low 80s Monday before a cooldown to the 30s and 40s at night, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. Tuesday will bring the coldest day since March with highs in the 40s or low 50s, forecasters say.

The sudden transition to colder weather will happen around the East Coast. AccuWeather meteorologists attribute the change to a strong cold front and storms. Temperatures 5 to 15 degrees below average are expected in the DC region and much of the northeastern U.S.

"After many cities experienced record-challenging warmth last week, a major flip in the pattern is expected this week," said AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham. "High temperatures can be more than 30 degrees lower than last week across a wide swath of the Northeast."

Once November begins, there will be a mixed bag of cold and temperate fall weather. The Capital Weather Gang expects highs up to 50 degrees with gusty winds on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will be more comfortable at or near the 60s to start the weekend.
