Toppers Pizza Opens Richmond Highway Location

GROVETON, VA—The Wisconsin-based Toppers Pizza has opened its second Virginia location at 6776 Richmond Hwy Suite 16 in Groveton.

The location held a grand opening last weekend gave away hundreds of pizzas to local shelters as an introduction of sorts into the community. The store also held a special fundraiser for West Potomac High School during its first days in business (Feb. 14-16).

Just as the name suggests, Toppers is known for its "Topperstix" and eccentric toppings, such as macaroni and cheese and tater tots. The restaurant's focus is on the pizza takeout essentials: pizza, breadsticks, wings, desserts and drinks. It can also boast fresh dough made in-store—and of course Wisconsin cheese.

The chain has begun expanding to the East Coast, and the Greater Alexandria area has been the first stop on its list in Virginia. The first Virginia location opened in the City of Alexandria at 3827 Mount Vernon Avenue late last year.

"The response from the community has been overwhelming," Jim Ferdenzi, director of operations at Triangle Restaurant Management, told Patch of the new Virginia locations.

Toppers signed a 22-store deal in Virginia, which will come to fruition within five or six years. It's looking at opening four more locations this year. Possibilities could include Kingstowne, Woodbridge, Fort Belvoir and other towns around Northern Virginia.

The new Richmond Highway restaurant is open 10 a.m.-3 a.m. seven days a week. See more information on Toppers' website.
