- The source of a Monday afternoon explosive noise in downtown Harrisonburg was identified as a lightning arrester near 231 South Liberty St. An officer with the Harrisonburg Police Department was driving past the arrester, which protects power and telephone lines from getting damaged from lightning, when it blew, and he called in the incident around 12:50 p.m. Authorities said debris rained down on the nearby grass, sidewalk, and street. (Daily News-Record)
- Down in Mount Crawford, the town council on Monday unanimously approved the first comprehensive plan the town has had in nearly 50 years. The plan will shape how the town grows over the next five years, including traffic plans and other improvement projects. Council members spent most of last year getting residents’ input and writing the plan, ultimately only needing to change two items before the vote. (WHSV)
- Easter in Harrisonburg will be all-inclusive this year as the city holds its first-ever adaptive egg hunt for those with physical or cognitive disabilities. The adaptive hunt will take place alongside the traditional egg hunt on Saturday, Apr. 1. “We hope that members of our community who have never been able to participate in an egg hunt before will come out and enjoy searching for eggs and collecting them,” said Harrisonburg Parks & Rec Program Supervisor Harriet Flynn.
