- During Tuesday's Harrisonburg School Board meeting, new leaders for the upcoming school year were announced, including a new principal for Thomas Harrison Middle School (THMS). Basil Marin, a former student of the school, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity. Additionally, educators of the year were recognized, with Daniella Buenaventura from Spotswood Elementary School receiving the Harrisonburg City Public Schools Lucy F. Simms Educator of the Year award. The meeting also covered budget updates, a roof repair proposal for Keister Elementary, and the progress of the THMS soccer field update. Attendance zoning for the new Rocktown High School and Harrisonburg High School was officially approved. (Daily News-Record)
- Gaines Group Architects has relocated its headquarters from Charlottesville to the former Chesapeake Western Railway building in downtown Harrisonburg. The historic train station, which had been abandoned for 35 years, was restored by the firm. By being headquartered in a building integral to Harrisonburg's history, Gaines Group Architects aims to be an active part of the community and contribute to the city's development and betterment through its design projects. - During the 10th annual Wound Care Awareness Month, the Sentara RMH Wound Healing Center in Harrisonburg is raising awareness about the risks of chronic wounds and emphasizing the importance of early detection and treatment. Chronic wounds, which affect nearly seven million Americans, can lead to a diminished quality of life and possible amputation if left untreated or improperly treated. The Wound Healing Center offers specialized care and advanced treatment options, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, to help patients with diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and other chronic wounds. - Former James Madison University pitcher Nick Robertson recently made his MLB debut with the LA Dodgers! On Tuesday, Jun. 6, Robertson was called up from Triple-A, and the next night he pitched two scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds in his Major League opener. (WHSV)
- The Harrisonburg-Rockingham County annual Juneteenth block party is coming up on Sunday, Jun. 18. The celebration on North Liberty Street will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is open to everyone. (NBC 29)
- Harrisonburg's planned Norfolk Southern railroad maintenance project has temporarily closed East Gay Street to Charles Street, including Kratzer Road, Washington Street, and Liberty Street. Kratzer Road railroad maintenance will be taking place until Wednesday, Jun. 21, and Washington Street and Liberty Street railroad maintenance will be taking place Tuesday, Jun. 13, to Friday, Jun. 16.
