- The Harrisonburg Half Marathon has received certification from the industry governing body, USA Track & Field (USATF). The organizers sought certification to ensure an accurate and rewarding experience for participants after feedback from last year's event. The certification from USATF not only legitimizes the marathon but also encourages broader participation and enhances its overall credibility. (Augusta Free Press)
- Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR) has announced that the Independence Day Fireworks show in Harrisonburg will take place on Saturday, Jul. 1 at 9:00 p.m. The fireworks display will be launched from Westover Park, and HDR has provided several recommended viewing locations in and around downtown Harrisonburg. Certain areas of the park will be closed temporarily for safety reasons but will reopen the following day. (WHSV)
- Virginia Senators Tim Kaine and Mike Warner have played a crucial role in advancing the Downtown Harrisonburg Streetsgate and Mobility Transformation Project. The project aims to enhance the streets in response to community demands for improved infrastructure, including a dedicated bike facility along Liberty Street. The $14.3 million investment, fully funded by federal funds, will transform downtown Harrisonburg into a more bike-friendly, walkable, and inclusive area, with construction anticipated to begin in 2026 and completion expected by the following year. - The Rockingham County Circuit Court in Harrisonburg has partnered with local organizations to create multi-language "frequently asked questions" videos, aiming to assist non-English speakers and those who use English as a second language. The videos cover various court services and processes, including marriage licenses, civil filings, criminal payments, and passports. Videos can be accessed through the court's website or YouTube channel, as well as at the court building itself. (WHSV)
- Lts. Douglas and Sharon Ingold have been officially commissioned to lead the Salvation Army in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
