- A man threatening employees with a knife at a local Walmart was shot by a Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office deputy. On Sunday evening, Brandon S. Mills entered the Walmart on Burgess Road, and at 8 p.m., police were notified of his erratic behavior — threatening others with a weapon. Mills charged at police officers as they arrived on site and was shot by a deputy. The suspect later died from his injuries at Sentara RMH; no other patrons or officers were injured in the incident. - The Massanutten Regional Library is asking for feedback as they plan for the future! Community input meetings will take place throughout the summer months to learn public opinions about the library and possible future offerings. You can find the full list of meetings at the link or contribute through this online survey that will be open throughout July. The Massanutten Regional Library hopes to have its plan completed before 2024. (WHSV)
- Harrisonburg Public Works has initiated a road project on East Market Street to enhance safety for all users. The project includes repaving the road, creating a dedicated right turn lane, reducing lanes to mitigate crashes and improve pedestrian crossings, and installing crosswalks and refuge islands. This effort is part of the city's broader paving schedule aimed at improving road safety and creating a more connected bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, based on community feedback received during an open house event.
