• Harrisonburg Public Works announces incoming sanitation changes (whsv.com) — Harrisonburg residents will see new sanitation rules take effect January 5, 2026, as Public Works rolls out updated yard waste pickup services. Flyers are being attached to every city trash toter this month to clarify the correct start date and explain the changes, and residents are encouraged to contact Public Works with any questions.
   

• Matt Cross' time on the school board ends without him (hburgcitizen.com) — Rockingham County’s school board said goodbye to member Matt Cross and began grappling with troubling new state data showing many local schools, including those serving Harrisonburg-area students, are underperforming. Leaders plan to dig into test scores, absenteeism and graduation rates, revisit their five-year plan, and hold a public budget hearing on Jan. 12 as they chart a path for improvement.
