  1. The Rockingham-Harrisonburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RHSPCA) is grateful for the support they received from Massanutten Resort's Summer Jam event on Jul. 3, which sold nearly 4,000 tickets and generated significant proceeds for the organization. The RHSPCA has experienced increased demand for its resources, with approximately 525 dogs and cats in their care. To encourage adoption, they are offering discounted adoption events throughout the month and have received a generous donation that waives adoption fees for adult cats. (WHSV)
  2. Hose Company No. 4, a volunteer fire company in Harrisonburg, has been asked by the city and fire department to vacate their firehouse on Rock Street by Sep. 1 after 133 years of service. The company is concerned about the impact on response times and the community's safety. They are searching for a new location to operate from and have invited the fire department to join them once a new firehouse is established. (WHSV)
  3. Starting today, Jul. 10, a project will begin at the I-81 exit 235 interchange in Weyers Cave, focusing on improving safety and reducing traffic congestion. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of May 2024, weather permitting. The enhancements involve the creation of right-turn lanes on Route 256 and Route 11 to facilitate easier access to the on-ramps for I-81. Motorists should be alert for flagger traffic control and heavy moving equipment during nighttime hours in the work zone. (Subscription: The News Virginian)
