As a part of the Cultivating Community Initiative, a program designed to encourage beautification and enrich the quality of life in the town’s neighborhoods, the town of Herndon produces an annual “Good Neighbor Award.”

“Residents of the town may nominate a family member, friend or neighbor who makes noteworthy contributions toward the quality of life in their neighborhoods,” the release stated.

Deadline for submissions is October 15th, and recipients of the Good Neighbor Award are required to be residents of Herndon and the act(s) for which they are nominated may not have been performed as an element of paid employment.

“The Good Neighbor Award celebrates the sense of community we enjoy here in Herndon. It’s particularly fitting that the program is administered by volunteers – the spirit of neighborliness and community in Herndon is truly exceptional,” said Herndon’s Mayor Lisa Merkel.
