Hummus Recall For Listeria Concern In Virginia, Maryland, D.C.
An Alexandria, Va. company recalled a hummus product sold throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C. due to a possible Listeria contamination.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An Alexandria, Va. company is recalling a hummus product sold throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C. because of a possible bacterial contamination.
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services released a statement saying Asmar's Mediterranean Food, Inc. is recalling a lot of Asmar's Original Hommus because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections to individuals with weakened immune systems, the department said.

While healthy individuals may suffer from short-term symptoms like fever, headaches and nausea, Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman.
Shoppers who purchased Asmar’s Original Hummus with the Lot Code of TV11/2617 should return the product to the place of sale for a full refund, the department said.

The product was sold to retail stores in Northern Virginia, as well as Whole Foods Stores in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and D.C.
