  1. The speed limit in downtown Leesburg has been reduced from 25 to 20 miles per hour. The decision was made by the Leesburg Town Council after a traffic and engineering study showed that lower speeds would enhance pedestrian safety and decrease the severity of accidents. Eighty-two new speed limit signs indicating the new limit have been installed, along with transition zones outside the speed zone to alert drivers of the change. The study highlighted the historic nature of the area and the need for reduced speeds to improve sight distances and intersection safety. (WTOP)
  2. The Town is planning to build a permanent air traffic control tower at Leesburg Executive Airport after the discontinuation of the remote tower program. The Town Council will allocate funds for the first stage of planning, with the aim of having the tower operational by 2030. The decision to build the tower comes after concerns were raised about increased safety risks following the termination of the remote tower program. The town will conduct a tower siting study, followed by an environmental study and design work, before starting construction in 2028 and completing it by 2030. (Loudoun Now)
  3. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has determined that an alleged sexual assault at a middle school was unfounded. A 13-year-old girl had reported that she was sexually assaulted by a 14-year-old boy in a single-person bathroom. However, after an investigation, the sheriff's office found no evidence of an assault and closed the case. The details of the investigation were provided in a search warrant affidavit.
