  1. After scrutiny regarding two sexual assault cases, the Loudoun County School District, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Leesburg Police Department have a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) concerning sexual assaults. Changes in the MOU include training for school resource officers (SROs) and how the SROs handle sexual assaults and harassment. Additionally, the district must begin its own investigation even if the police investigation is not complete. (DC News Now)
  2. The Loudoun County Planning Commission recently completed its review and voted to recommend approval of the Draft Zoning Ordinance by the Board of Supervisors. This is a major milestone for the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance Rewrite project, and the next steps include publishing the ordinance draft on the city's website and hosting a public hearing. 3. On Jun. 13, the Leesburg Town Council unanimously voted against building 25 townhouses at a cul-de-sac on the end of Bow Lake Place next to Harper Park Middle School. Although the town staff analysis showed the increased traffic from the townhouses would be similar to the surrounding areas and not create a "burden," there was "organized resistance" from local residents. The residents in the chamber applauded the council's decision after the vote. (Loudoun Now)
