Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Complaints Yield No Violations
Two places were inspected after complaints of food-borne illness: Here are the latest restaurant health inspections for the Leesburg area.

LEESBURG, VA—Loudoun Health District officials recently inspected food preparation and storage in Loudoun County. "In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations," according to Virginia Department of Health's website.
Violations noted below—or non-violations at two places following investigations of complaints (see below)—involve those issues that would typically require a re-inspection if not corrected or those that are more likely than other violations to contribute to food contamination. They're divided into two categories:
Priority Observations are those violations such as improper cooking, reheating, cooling, or hand-washing. These violations are known to cause food-borne illnesses. Uncorrected priority observations usually result in a re-inspection. Critical violations are food regulation violations which, if left uncorrected, are more likely than other violations to directly contribute to food contamination, illness, or environmental degradation.

"No priority or critical violations" means that other violations were noted, but do not require re-inspection. "No items found" means no violations were noted for the establishment, according to the health department.

Inspector's note: "The purpose of today's visit is due to a complaint of a possible foodborne illness. Complaint # 5986803. Complainant purchased 2 Frozen Shrimp Scampi meals from Wegmans store in Sterling on 4/20 and 2 meals purchased on 4/27 at the Leesburg location. Complainant cooked the shrimp scampi from a raw state and ate the meals on 4/30. I spoke to the Food Safety Manager of Wegmans and he provided information on how this and all food safety complaints are handled. The Shrimp Scampi comes into the store frozen, pre-packaged and sold the same way. Manager stated that they have not had any other complaints. Manager stated there has not been any ill employees. The health department has not received any other complaints on this food item. I check the display freezer in which the foods are sold and all were frozen. There is cooking instructions on the package. The product is clearly frozen and raw when purchased. There is no evidence the complainant became ill from the purchase of the frozen, raw shrimp scampi. Cause of illness unknown.
