- Loudoun County government employees have filed a petition to vote about unionization. This petition would require signatures from at least 30 percent of employees voting in favor of being represented. SEIU Loudon Chapter President Julius Reynolds called it "a great day in Loudoun County," citing the need to fix poor working conditions. (Loudoun Now)
- An Ashburn family fulfilled a long-held dream of running an ice cream parlor by opening up a Bruster's Real Ice Cream shop at the Broadlands Village Center. The Smart family opened their shop in May 2020, serving 10,000 scoops on opening day. The franchisees have quickly expanded and have added international flavors to their menu. (The Burn)
- Loudoun County School officials are responding to an increase in hate incidents by offering increased response training and professional learning. Division of Equity staff members visited county schools to learn what is going on and how they can support school staff members when handling these issues. The most common type of incident involves the use of racial slurs, with reports of incidents happening in schools 280 times across the county. (WTOP)
- Several Loudoun roads are in the process of being renamed due to historical ties to Confederate generals. The road renamings are linked to a larger effort to eliminate public infrastructure recognition of figures with Confederate and segregationist ties. The renamings arw scheduled to be completed by Aug. 3 with homeowners being notified of the changes. (Loudoun Now)
