New Leesburg Animal Shelter To Host Grand Opening On July 30
Loudoun County Animal Services has finished their move from Waterford to Leesburg. They will host a grand opening on Friday, July 30.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County Animal Services' new building is now open by appointment only. The facility will open for regular hours after a grand-opening event on Friday, July 30.
The ribbon cutting event, which is open to the public, will be attended by members of the board of supervisors and other guests on July 30. On July 31 and Aug. 1, the new shelter will host an array of events for visitors.
The ribbon cutting will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 30. The other events will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1. The new shelter is located at 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg.

After the ribbon cutting on July 30, employees with Loudoun County Animal Services will offer guided tours of the new facility. Tours will begin at 1 p.m., while the last tour will start at 5 p.m.
More community events will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1. The events are free and open to the public, though some require preregistration on the county's website.

- Touch A Truck
- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- A Loudoun County humane law enforcement officer will be on site to discuss how they help animals, their vehicle, and the equipment they use.
- Guided tours
- 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Guided tours of the new facility will be offered at the beginning of each hour.
- Busy Buddies
- 12 p.m.
- Loudoun County Animal Services staff will explain the importance of keeping animals busy. With a focus on enriching animals, this event will accept volunteers of all ages.
- Critters and Crafts
- 4 p.m.
- Visitors are invited to partake in a "fun craft and animal activity," the shelter said.
The new facility is more than 20,000 square feet, the county said. It is also the first public facility in the country to meet all of the animal shelter guidelines set by Association of Shelter Veterinarians.
